Coming to a new place can sometimes be overwhelming and you may have some questions. Here are some of our most common questions.

DO I NEED TO HAVE EXPERIENCE TO START?
Absolutely not. Everyone has to start somewhere and we'd love you to take your first steps of dance with us!
How old are your students?
We start students from 18 months all the way to 16 years old. We are slowly building our seniors so next year we'll be running classes for 1.5 - 17 year olds.
What should my child wear for their first class?
For your first class please put your child in something they already have: tshirt, shorts/leggings and bare foot is a perfect way to start our classes.
My child has never danced before. How do I know which level is best for them?
We accept dancers of all skill levels with our class levels being based on both age and ability. New dancers are supported in growing at their own pace while long time students are simultaneously challenged to further their skills.
Can parents watch class?
We invite one parent per dancer to attend the Twirltime class. All other levels are closed to family and friends.
Do you have a Dress Code?
Yes we do. We have 2 options for our students. Option A is a pink skirted leotard. Option B is white tshirt with navy leggings. Further information can be found here.
What about dance shoes?
We prefer our youngest little dancers to start bare foot. This way we can see how they feet are tracking. Ballet shoes are to be worn for all ballet classes. Tap shoes can be worn in Soloist and Primary classes for the tap section of class.From Rising stars level students are required to have correct shoes for each genre: tap, jazz and ballet. What do I bring to class?
Please bring a water bottle, enthusiasm, a willingness to give everything a go and a smile!
Do you offer introductory lessons?
During the school holidays we do offer holiday classes which are perfect for potential new dancers.
There is also a introductory 4 week session as it can take new dancers a few weeks to settle into a new environment
Do classes run of Public Holidays/Special Days?
Generally we run classes on public holidays and special days (such as Christmas Pageant). On these days we generally run a modified timetable at one of our locations. Should you not wish to attend the class that day you have the option to attend a catch up class.
What happens if I miss a class?
We appreciate that sometimes you will miss a class due to illness, holiday, special circumstances. You are entitled to a catch up class within the same term. Please ensure you complete the missed class form ASAP. All information about missing class & catch up classes can be found here.
Do you offer private lessons?
Yes we offer private lessons upon request.
Do you offer performances?
We sure do! Performances are definitely a highlight at A Star Dance. We offer up to 4 performance opportunities a year. All performance opportunities are non compulsoryMarch/April - Broadway BebeMay/June - Mid Year ShowcaseOctober/November - Spring Gala BalletDecember - Christmas Concert
Do I need to sew?
Would you like to sew for us? If so, please let us know. But don't panic if you don't like sewing. We handle all the costumes and sewing.
Do you offer Competitions?
No. We believe that you should only be in competition with yourself. Did you work harder today? Have your turns improved? What can you do to improve?
Do you offer exams?
Yes we do. We run external exams through ATOD and offer ballet, tap, jazz, musical theatre and national character. We also offer internal exams in ballet, jazz and tap.
