preschool classes

Children are guided through a program which has been specially devised for their young bodies and their ability. The class structure combines mime and imagination, discovering and developing basic skills whilst gaining poise, posture, grace and all the fundamental basics of classical ballet.

Term themes will assist in allowing the children to feel more confident in their growing abilities and appreciation of dance and music. Each 40 minute class incorporates movement, exercises, games, music, dance, counting, rhythm, characterisation and drama to develop each child’s motor skills, coordination, confidence, creativity and musicality. Individuality is encouraged as the child’s confidence is nurtured as his or her physical skills develop; reinforcing right & left, song & dance, working with others, prop work, ribbons and instruments.

Twirltime classes are aimed for children 18 months and over and require parent/carer involvement.

From around 3 years old we offer additional styles of dance. We offer Soloist classes and Musical Stars for children 3-5 years old who are ready to be separated from their carer.

Our Twirltime classes are a fabulous opportunity for the youngest dancers in our ballet school to begin their journey in the world of dance with the security of their carer alongside of them. Adult participation and guidance is valued by our teachers and is paramount to the success of the class for your child and for other dancers. Routine and structure are important in these classes with different themes being explored throughout the year. A friendly reminder that we value the safety of children and therefore the taking of photos and videos in these classes are strictly prohibited. We are only able to have one adult per dancer attend class.

This is an exciting age group to teach. Children in this level are often leaving their carer for the first time in a formal situation. They get excited quickly and have fantastic imaginations. Whilst our classes at this level are still fun we need structure and a few rules to ensure that our dancers have a safe and enjoyable experience. This is also an age that children’s personalities are starting to come to the fore and they are seeking new experiences and challenges. In this level we have 30 minutes of ballet and then we alternate 15 minutes of jazz and tap. We offer exams in ballet in May/June for this age.

Jazz is a high energy and faster pace style of dancing. We offer exams in jazz in Oct/November for this age.

Tap is a form of dance where dancers use their feet as percussive instruments. Tap Shoes are worn with metal plates on the toe and heel to assist in making the tap sounds. Tap is great for fostering rhythm in dancers. Exams are offered for children (ready to start primary school the following year) in Oct/Nov.
