The job of feet is walking, but their hobby is dancing.

I'm not talking about being instafamous or a reality TV star. I'm talking about shining from within. Being a star means being the best you can be.
You start by believing in your abilities, taking care of your body and mind, emphasise your strengths, leap over obstacles, accept praise graciously and most importantly tune in and believe in yourself.
At A Star Dance we believe that everyone can be a star in their own way. Some of our students are wanting to become professional performing arts. Some of our students love coming to class to "just get away from it all". Some of our students love coming to because dance is their passion. Some of our students love coming to have some fun. It doesn't matter why our students love coming to us. What does matter is that we are their happy place. Not only do we offer dance tuition and performance opportunities but we provide emotional support and assist in helping our students discover their highest potential.
and I love Love LOVE my students and helping them become the best versions of themselves.
Would you believe that I had never considered teaching dance at all. However in 1994 (yes I'm old!) a friend asked for help. She was supposed to offer a Dance class at a primary school during lunchtime for 5 weeks. She couldn't do it and suggested I teach it. I remember catching two buses (from West Lakes to the city and then a bus to Glen Osmond) with my dancewear on and carrying a portable CD player and pack of CDs. Whilst I wasn't sure about my teaching abilities, the girls loved what I offered them and at the end of 5 weeks their parents were invited to the gym to watch our little dance. I invited my mum to come too (this way I didn't have to catch two buses!) and she sat in the audience to see our dance. The lady next to her started talking to my mum and asked her who her daughter was. When the lady found out that my mum was related to the dance teacher her eyes lit up. She then told my mum that her daughter was quiet and shy, didn't really have any friends and never ever talked about school until she started taking my dance classes. She said how her daughter would practice at home and tell her mum everything I had done and said in our little 30 minute class.
I was blown away. In only a short amount of time this little 11 year old's confidence had grown. That is the power of teaching.
Unfortunately I never got a chance to say goodbye to my first students and I can't even remember their names now. However the impact I had on that little girl has stayed with me and she has made a bigger impact on me and my life.
My love of teaching and learning hasn't stopped and I'm so proud of our students and teaching team at A Star Dance.

“When you dance your purpose isn’t to get to a certain spot on the dance floor. It’s to enjoy every step along the way”
